This role involves ensuring efficient production processes, maintaining high-quality standards, managing a team of employees, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. The Key Results will be measured in achieving production goals, optimizing resources, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership:
- Manage day-to-day operations and supervise facility center and operators to run machines in Thika, including production, logistics, and supply chain management
- Develop and implement operational strategies to optimize production efficiency and meet organizational goals
- Provide leadership and direction to the plant operations team, including production supervisors, technicians, and support staff
- Establish performance metrics and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Identify and resolve operational issues and bottlenecks to ensure smooth production flow
- Manage logistics and deliveries to clients
- Optimize routes from collection to delivery, control the schedule of deliveries
- Production Management:
- Effectively control supply chain: usage of raw materials, inventory management, safety stock, and packaging materials through the preparation of production schedules and maintenance of re-order levels for these materials
- Plan and schedule production activities to meet customer demand and maintain optimal inventory levels
- Monitor production processes, analyze production data, and implement improvements to enhance output and reduce waste
- Quality Assurance, Safety and Compliance:
- Setting up and maintaining all compliance requirements including all aspects of operations of agro-inputs companies/ operations with their own products locally manufactured
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure adherence to product specifications and quality standards
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify quality issues and implement corrective actions
- Team Management:
- Recruit, train, and develop a skilled workforce to meet production requirements
- Set performance goals, provide feedback, and conduct performance evaluations for the operations team
- Foster a positive work environment, promote teamwork, and resolve employee issues or conflicts
- Have an excellent roadmap reporting monitoring to ease communication with CEO and CTO of the company
- Budgeting and Cost Control:
- Develop and manage the plant operations budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost control
- Analytical and cost optimizer for the smooth operations
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, process optimization, and waste elimination
- Monitor expenses, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions to achieve financial targets
Qualifications
- 10+ years of proven experience in logistics in manufacturing company/ operations in fertilizers company or similar
- Engineering studies desirable: ideally mechanical, electrical, production engineering, supply chain, or logistics
- Proven record of shipping products on time and on budget
- Work from the operations facility in Thika, every day - discipline is a must
- Proficiency in analyzing data, interpreting trends, and making data-driven decisions.
- Deep understanding of technology
